Hi everyone! This is Jordan Stafford, the summer writing intern for Righteous Rides. I wanted to share a fun story about a donor that I met this week.
I had the pleasure of traveling with Barb Rogers (Vehicle Donation Coordinator/Volunteer) to pick up a large clothing donation. We arrived at the home of Sally Willhoit, a sweet woman who lives nearby, at around 10:30 in the morning.
I had been planning on a quick trip, figuring that we would pick up the clothing items, pack them in the van, and then head back to Righteous Rides. However, the Lord had a better plan. He already knew that we were going to be staying awhile – hearing the wisdom and stories of Mrs. Willhoit.
The second we walked into her house, she showered us with words of affirmation. Mrs. Willhoit is such a natural encourager.
“You are beautiful!” “I can just tell that you are sweet.” “The Lord is going to do amazing things in your life.”
These are just a few of the kind and uplifting things that she said.
This woman had already donated from her wardrobe to our Blessings Boutique, which provides free clothing to missionaries, and then she continued to bless our ministry by encouraging me and Barb Rogers.
She shared stories about her life with us, and offered many words of wisdom about trusting God even when things don’t go the way we expect or want. Recently, Mrs. Willhoit dealt with a tragedy in her life, and her response to it was amazing. She quoted the Bible in Romans 8:28, which says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purposes.” Even in the face of loss and grief, she continued to look to God for strength, and to give back to those around her.
I wanted to share this story because her life and her generosity are a blessing to me, and encourage me to “lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares, and run with endurance the race that is set before [me].” (Hebrews 12:1-2). I hope that it encourages you too!”
